As we mentioned yesterday, enoVate wants to investigate travel trends in Chinese youth.

One trend that the enoVate team has been watching and, for a certain team member, even participating in, is couchsurfing (沙发客)! Want a cheap way to see a new city? Tired of the recycled location information Lonely Planets try to push on you? Try couchsurfing your way around China.

A select few in China are starting to understand the benefits of couchsurfing. It’s cheap. If you surf in, say, Changsha, you get a couch with a knowledgeable local guide. If you let others stay on your couch, you get to meet people from all over!

While the phenomenon has yet to produce an indigenous Chinese website that can facilitate surfing in China, couchsurfing.org is still servicing the mainland. Take a look at your options in Changsha.

The english teachers seem of course hospitable and helpful, but you’ll also see posts for Changsha locals. Just a few years ago, our team didn’t see any locals willing to participate. In a few more years, just imagine your sofa options!

Here are some statistics on China’s couch surfing scene
